Your Family's Safety Comes First

We’ve been fitting blinds in Yorkshire homes for over a decade, and if there’s one thing we take more seriously than anything else, it’s keeping children safe. Every blind we supply meets UK safety standards, and we’re proud members of the British Blind & Shutter Association’s Make it Safe campaign.

Young children can be at risk from blind cords and chains. It’s that simple, and it’s why we always put safety first when recommending products for family homes.

Safe by Design—The Best Choice

The safest blinds are the ones that don’t have loose cords or chains in the first place. We call these “Safe by Design” blinds, and we’ll always suggest them first if you’ve got young children.

What are Safe by Design blinds?

They’re blinds that are either completely cordless or have cords that are concealed or held under tension so they can’t form dangerous loops. You operate them by pushing, pulling, or using a remote control — no dangling cords for little hands to reach.

We offer Safe by Design options for:

  • Cordless Honeycell Absolute – spring operated blind
  • Twin Pull Roller blinds and Honeycell — systems you simply pull down and up
  • Day & Night blinds — Our Perfectly Fitted and Perfect Fit systems
  • Pleated blinds — Tensioned cord systems that are pushed into position
  • Stick On CelluShade — Cordless, operated by hand
  • Vertical blinds — Wand-operated systems with no loose chains
  • Roman blinds — Available with breakaway safety devices
  • Motorised blinds — No cords at all, operated by remote or smartphone
  • Shutters — Opened and closed by hand, completely safe

Motorisation — The Smartest Safety Solution

Motorised blinds aren’t just convenient — they’re the safest option you can choose. No cords, no chains, just a remote control or your smartphone. We offer motorisation across most of our range, from budget-friendly battery-powered options to fully integrated smart home systems that work with Alexa or Google Home.

If you’ve got young children, motorisation is worth every penny for the peace of mind alone.

Making Your Current Blinds Safer

Already got blinds with cords or chains? Don’t panic — there are safety devices that can make them much safer, and we can fit them for you.

Safety devices we supply and install:

Chain-break connectors — These clip into the operating chain and break apart if any pressure is applied, but can be reconnected after inspection. Essential for vertical blinds and roller blinds with chains.

Cord and chain tensioners — These keep cords permanently taut and out of reach by fixing them securely to the wall or window frame at the furthest point from the blind.

Cleats — These are fixed to the wall at least 1.5 metres from the floor, well out of children’s reach. After operating the blind, you wind the cord around the cleat in a figure-of-eight pattern to keep it secure.

We’ll always check your existing blinds during a free consultation and advise on the best safety solution for your situation. If safety devices are needed, we’ll fit them properly at no extra cost.

Our Safety Commitment

Every installation includes:

  • A full safety check and advice on the safest options for your home
  • Proper installation of all safety devices where needed
  • Clear guidance on how to use your blinds safely
  • Compliance with all UK safety regulations
  • BBSA Make it Safe campaign standards

We’ll always:

  • Recommend Safe by Design options first for homes with young children
  • Explain exactly how each blind operates and any safety considerations
  • Fit safety devices correctly and securely
  • Show you how to use cleats or tensioners properly
  • Move furniture away from cords during installation if needed

We’ll never:

  • Leave dangerous loops in cords or chains
  • Skip safety devices to save time or money
  • Fit blinds that don’t meet current UK safety standards
  • Rush through safety explanations

Important Safety Reminders

Even with the safest blinds, there are a few simple rules that help keep children safe:

  • Keep cots, beds, and furniture away from blind cords and chains
  • Children love to climb — move chairs and tables away from windows
  • Never tie cords together or let them twist into loops
  • Always use safety devices like cleats after every operation
  • Check cords and chains regularly for wear or damage
  • If you’re not sure something’s safe, call us and we’ll come check it

Free Safety Checks

If you’ve got blinds fitted by another company and you’re worried about safety, give us a call. We’ll come out, check them over, and advise on what safety devices you need — completely free of charge. We can supply and fit the right safety equipment for any blind, whether we fitted it or not.

Because at Perfect Blinds UK, keeping Yorkshire families safe isn’t just our job — it’s our responsibility.
