ApexShade™
ApexShade™ is our system for gable end windows—those triangular or trapezoid-shaped windows you get at the top of houses with pitched roofs. These are notoriously difficult to find blinds for, but pleated blinds handle them beautifully.
The blind follows the exact shape of your window, whether it’s a perfect triangle, a trapezoid, or some other awkward shape. The fabric pleats fold up neatly at the bottom, giving you full access to the window when you want it, and pull down to cover the whole shape when you need privacy or shade.
Triangular apex and gable end windows are striking architectural features, but unresolved glazing in a roof space or barn conversion often leads to severe temperature fluctuations and a lack of privacy. We bypass generic, poorly fitted window coverings to deliver the ApexShade™ system, an engineered pleated architecture designed specifically for complex geometric glazing. By deploying precisely calculated angles and integrated tensioned guide wires, the fabric remains perfectly taut and tracks smoothly regardless of the window’s orientation or angle. When raised, the concertina structure stacks neatly (typically 6-8cm) to preserve your architectural view; when lowered, it executes smooth, uniform coverage that actively regulates your climate, ensuring your space feels calm and properly finished.
Architectural precision requires exact tolerances. Apex windows demand highly accurate laser measurement, meaning professional fitting is absolutely essential to avoid magnified geometric errors. Because each system is uniquely manufactured to the exact specification of your window, expect a dedicated lead time of 6 to 8 weeks. Due to the rigid geometry of a triangle, the system provides exceptional room darkening (typically 85-90%) but cannot achieve absolute blackout, as microscopic light bleed will occur around the edges. The architecture is adaptable, allowing for installation via drill-free Perfect Fit profiles on uPVC or face-fixed brackets for timber frames, and the mechanics can be configured to operate either bottom-to-point or point-to-bottom depending on your daily requirements.
We accommodate the vast majority of triangles, trapezoids, and angled glazing. However, extremely steep angles, circular features, or windows with a base under 50cm may fall outside the mechanical limits of the system.
No. We deploy specialist tensioned side wires and guides that keep the pleated fabric strictly positioned, preventing any sagging, drooping, or bunching over time.
For hard-to-reach gable ends, we strongly recommend deploying advanced motorisation. For accessible glazing, the system utilises a sleek, child-safe cordless handle operation.
No. While we specify fabrics that block light transmission, the complex geometry of an apex window means slight light ingress will occur at the edges, achieving an 85-90% darkening effect.
Yes. When specified with Honeycell® thermal fabrics, the system creates a formidable cellular air barrier that actively reduces solar heat gain in the summer and cuts heat loss by 40-50% during the winter.
We execute the installation based on your existing frame structure, deploying either drill-free Perfect Fit frames that clip directly onto uPVC beading, or traditional screwed brackets for timber and aluminium frames.
Because every apex window is mathematically unique, the bespoke engineering process requires 6 to 8 weeks from the initial laser measurement to final installation.
The pleated structure can naturally collect dust. We recommend a gentle vacuum with an upholstery attachment or a soft duster, avoiding harsh chemicals or crushing the pleats to protect the architectural finish.
Deploy advanced motorisation. Apex windows are frequently out of physical reach. Execute seamless, hands-free control over your lighting by integrating remote-controlled motors. Solar-powered units are particularly effective for roof spaces, requiring zero manual charging or complex mains wiring.
Integrate active climate management. A loft space is highly vulnerable to external weather. Specify our Honeycell® thermal architecture or thermal reflective metallic coatings to create a cellular barrier against the glass, radically reducing intense summer heat and trapping your heating inside during December.
Execute linked operation. For expansive gable ends featuring multiple panes of glass, synchronise all motorised ApexShade™ systems to a single remote or smart home hub. This ensures a uniform, flawless deployment across the entire architectural elevation simultaneously.
