At Perfect Blinds UK, we bring the future of home automation directly to your windows. We partner with the world’s leading motor manufacturers—including Somfy, Louvolite, Motionblinds, and Thorq—to deliver whisper-quiet, ultra-reliable smart blinds tailored to your lifestyle.
We also specialise in seamless integration with advanced smart home ecosystems, including KNX, Control4, and other leading automated systems. Whether you want to sync your shading with your whole-house automation, schedule your morning light, or control your privacy via a smartphone or voice command, we provide flawless, expert installations for both premium homes and commercial spaces.
Effortless operation. Press a button, the blind moves. That is it. No pulling, no tugging, no effort. Raise them in the morning, lower them at night, all without leaving your seat.
Perfect for awkward windows. Got skylights, high windows, or blinds behind furniture? Motorisation solves the problem. Control every blind in your home without stretching, climbing, or moving things out of the way.
Child safe by design. No dangling cords or chains means motorised blinds are the safest option for homes with young children. There is simply nothing for little hands to grab or get tangled in.
Quiet and smooth. Modern blind motors are impressively quiet. The blinds glide up and down smoothly without clunking or grinding. You will barely notice they are electric until you try to go back to manual.
Consistent positioning. Motorised blinds stop at exactly the same point every time. No more uneven blinds or fiddling to get them level. Set your favourite positions and the blinds hit them perfectly.
Works with any room. Bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, conservatories, offices. Motorised blinds suit any space where you want convenience, style, and modern functionality.
Battery or mains powered? Most of our motorised blinds use rechargeable batteries that last months between charges. Mains-wired options are available for permanent installations where you never want to think about batteries.
Which motor brand? We fit motors from Somfy, Louvolite, and Motionblinds. All are reliable and quiet. Somfy is the industry leader with brilliant smart home integration. Louvolite offers great value. Motionblinds work seamlessly with Apple HomeKit. We help you choose what suits your setup.
Not every blind can be motorised. Most blind types work brilliantly with motors, but some older or very small blinds are not suitable. We assess everything when we measure up and advise honestly on what will work.
Remote controls included. Every motorised blind comes with a remote. You can control individual blinds or group several together so they all move at once. One button, whole room sorted.
Installation is straightforward. For battery-powered blinds, fitting is just like normal blinds. For mains-wired systems, we work with qualified electricians to make sure everything is installed safely and neatly.
Retrofit options are available. Already got blinds you love? Some existing blinds can be retrofitted with motors. We will take a look and let you know if it is possible.
It varies depending on the type and size of your window dressings, but motorisation generally introduces a premium per blind. Smaller windows using compact battery motors sit at the entry point, while larger expanses requiring powerful mains-powered motors represent a higher tier of investment. If you are retrofitting multiple rooms with centralized group control or seamless smart home integration, you will also want to factor in the cost of dedicated hubs and dedicated remotes.
While it requires a larger upfront investment, the payoff is substantial for large, heavy treatments or hard-to-reach skylights. Ultimately, you are paying for daily convenience, child-safe cordless operation, and sleek aesthetics. As a bonus, automated window treatments can act as a premium selling point, adding tangible appeal for future buyers who prize smart home features.
Modern quality motors are pretty quiet – you’ll hear a gentle hum when they operate, but it’s not loud or annoying. Certainly quieter than the noise of kids arguing or the telly. Some motors are quieter than others – Somfy motors in particular are designed for quiet operation. If you’re motorising blinds in a bedroom and you’re worried about noise waking you up, we can demonstrate the noise level or you can set them on timers so they don’t operate when you’re sleeping.
Unlike older manual styles, standard motorised blinds do not have a manual override. Trying to force them open or closed by hand can permanently damage the internal motor gears.
For battery-powered blinds, the trick is preventing a total shutdown. The blinds will give you plenty of warning when the battery is running low—the motor might sound sluggish, operate slower than usual, or flash a small LED indicator. It is vital to plug them in and recharge them as soon as you notice these signs, rather than waiting for them to die completely in an inconvenient position.
For mains-powered blinds, a power cut will temporarily freeze them in place. Fortunately, power outages are usually brief, and because modern smart motors are highly reliable, getting caught out is rare. Keeping your charging routine in check for battery models ensures you are never left stuck in the dark.
Sometimes, but not always. If you’ve got freehanging roller blinds or pleated blinds and they’re not ancient, we might be able to retrofit motors to them. But if the blinds are old, or they’re a type that doesn’t work well with motors, you’re usually better off getting new motorised blinds from scratch. Retrofitting often costs almost as much as new blinds anyway because we need to modify the existing system. Bring it up when we come to measure and we’ll let you know honestly whether it’s worth retrofitting or better to start fresh.
Yeah, they can, but you usually need a compatible smart hub to bridge between the blind motors and your voice assistant. The hub connects to your WiFi and translates commands from Alexa or Google into signals the motors understand. Somfy has their own Tahoma hub, for example. Once it’s set up, you can say “Alexa, close the living room blinds” or “OK Google, open the bedroom blinds” and they’ll do it. It’s proper convenient once you’re used to it, though the initial setup can be a bit fiddly if you’re not comfortable with tech.
Depends on how often you use them and the size of the blind, but typically several months. A small bedroom blind that opens in the morning and closes at night might go 6-12 months between charges. A large heavy blind that you adjust multiple times a day might need charging every 2-3 months. The motors usually take standard rechargeable batteries or have built-in batteries you charge via USB. You’ll get warning when they’re running low, and charging typically takes a few hours. Most people find the battery life perfectly acceptable and prefer it over having visible power cables.
If you’ve got them connected to a smart hub with WiFi access, yeah you can control them from anywhere via the app on your phone. This is brilliant for security – you can make it look like someone’s home by opening and closing blinds while you’re on holiday. Or if you’ve forgotten to close blinds and the sun’s baking your furniture, you can close them remotely. Some people use it to let heat out on hot days or let light in for plants. It’s one of those features that seems unnecessary until you have it, then you wonder how you lived without it.
The motors typically come with a manufacturer’s warranty (usually 2-5 years depending on the brand), and we provide our standard 2-year warranty on the installation and blind construction. If something goes wrong with the motor, we’ll sort it out – either repairing or replacing it depending on the issue. Quality motors are reliable and rarely have problems, but if they do, you’re covered. The motors are designed for tens of thousands of operations, so they should outlast the fabric on the blinds.
Smart home integration. Connect your motorised blinds to your smart home system and control them from your phone, tablet, or voice assistant. Somfy motors work with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit. Set schedules, create scenes, and automate your blinds to fit your lifestyle.
Voice control. Tell Alexa to close the living room blinds. Ask Google to open the bedroom blinds. It is genuinely useful and surprisingly satisfying. Once you start using voice control, you will use it all the time.
Schedules and automation. Set your blinds to open with your morning alarm and close at sunset. Program them to adjust based on the time of day or how bright it is outside. Your home looks after itself.
Whole house control. Fitting motorised blinds in multiple rooms? Control them all from one app. Close every blind in the house when you leave. Open them all when you get home. One tap, job done.
Scene setting. Create scenes that adjust multiple blinds at once. Movie mode dims the living room. Wake up mode opens the bedroom blinds gradually. Leaving home mode closes everything and sets your house to away.
Solar panels. Some motorised blinds can be fitted with small solar panels that trickle-charge the batteries using daylight. Perfect for skylights and south-facing windows where the sun does the work.
