The King of Versatility
CelluShade™ is our exclusive trademark brand of pleated blinds, representing the absolute pinnacle of versatility. These blinds can be configured as standard bottom-up, or top-down/bottom-up—allowing you to adjust them from either end for the perfect balance of light and privacy. They are the ideal choice for conservatories, seamlessly fitting both vertical and roof windows, and can even be motorised for those hard-to-reach spots.
Pleated blinds are the ultimate solution for awkward, hard-to-fit windows. Whether your space features circles, triangles, trapezoids, arches, or gable ends, our pleated blinds are engineered to handle complex architectural shapes with ease. Of course, they look equally stunning on standard rectangular windows, too.
The secret lies in the concertina design, allowing the fabric to stack neatly and compactly when opened. This maximizes your view and maintains a clean, minimalist look whether the blinds are open or closed. Furthermore, the cellular honeycomb structure acts as a powerful insulator, trapping air within its pockets to keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
CelluShade Frameless
Sleek and Minimal
Our CelluShade Frameless system is as neat as they come. It attaches directly to your window using slim brackets that you barely notice, giving you that contemporary, minimalist look without bulky frames getting in the way. The blind sits really close to the glass, so there’s minimal light gaps, and it moves with your window when you open it.
This system is properly versatile—it works on uPVC, timber, and aluminum windows, and it can handle obstacles like window handles and locks that might get in the way of other systems. We’ve used it on all sorts of tricky installations where other fitters have scratched their heads and said it can’t be done.
CelluShade Stick-On
The Perfect Frame-Free Solution
When drilling into your window frames is off the table, the CelluShade™ Stick-On system is the ultimate alternative. Featuring precision German engineering, this innovative design is ideal for bifold doors or any window with square beading.
Rather than using screws, the entire system is mounted seamlessly using high-strength adhesive side channels. This creates a clean, flush look that moves perfectly with your doors and windows without compromising your warranties. Operation is completely handleless, controlled by a sleek, specialised profile for a truly minimalist aesthetic.
Perfect Fit Frames
The Clip-On Solution
Perfect Fit frames are those clever clip-on brackets that attach to windows without drilling. The frame clips around your window’s glass unit, holding the blind securely in place without any permanent fixings. Brilliant if you don’t want screw holes in your windows or you’re renting and need something that’s easily removable.
The frame sits right against the glass, so the blind moves with your window when you open it – ideal for tilt-and-turn windows or anywhere you need regular access to window handles. Because the frame hugs the glass unit, you don’t get light gaps at the sides like you sometimes get with traditional blinds.
CelluShade Freehanging Blinds
Traditional and Reliable
Freehanging pleated blinds mount above your window using brackets screwed to the wall or ceiling—this is your traditional installation method, and it works brilliantly. You can fit them inside the window recess for a neat look or outside the recess to make your windows look bigger and provide better light control.
With free-hanging blinds, you’ve got the most flexibility in terms of sizing and positioning. They work on absolutely any type of window—uPVC, timber, aluminum, steel—because they’re not attaching to the window itself. They’re also usually the most affordable option because there’s less hardware involved compared to the fitted systems.
Pleated Lantern/Roof (LanternShade™)
Conservatory Perfection
Our LanternShade™ system is specifically designed for conservatory roofs, lantern roofs, and skylight windows. These are the windows that are either horizontal or at an angle, and they need a special tensioned system to stop the blind from sagging in the middle.
The clever bit is the side wires or tracks that keep the fabric taut, so even when the blind is halfway open, it stays neat and doesn’t droop. This is dead important for roof windows because gravity would otherwise pull an untensioned blind down into a saggy mess.
Pleated Gable End/Apex (ApexShade™)
For Those Tricky Triangle Windows
ApexShade™ is our system for gable end windows—those triangular or trapezoid-shaped windows you get at the top of houses with pitched roofs. These are notoriously difficult to find blinds for, but pleated blinds handle them beautifully.
The blind follows the exact shape of your window, whether it’s a perfect triangle, a trapezoid, or some other awkward shape. The fabric pleats fold up neatly at the bottom, giving you full access to the window when you want it, and pull down to cover the whole shape when you need privacy or shade.
Common Questions (FAQ)
What's the difference between all these pleated blind systems?
Right, so you’ve got systems that attach to your window (Frameless, Stick-On, and Perfect Fit Frames) and systems that mount above your window (Freehanging). Window-attached ones move with your window when you open it and have no light gaps. Freehanging ones stay put but work on any window type and can go bigger. Then you’ve got the specialist roof systems (LanternShade™ for horizontal/angled roofs and ApexShade™ for triangular gable ends), which use tension systems to stop sagging. Pick based on your window type, whether you can drill, and what look you’re after.
How good are pleated blinds at insulation?
They’re actually brilliant for insulation. The cellular honeycomb structure traps air in little pockets, which creates an insulating barrier at your window. It’s like having bubble wrap on your windows, but obviously much better looking. Thermal-backed pleated blinds are particularly effective—they can reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. You won’t suddenly slash your energy bills in half, but you’ll definitely notice rooms staying warmer in winter and cooler in summer. The thermal efficiency is one of the main reasons people pick pleated blinds over other styles.
Can pleated blinds completely blackout a room?
If you pick proper blackout fabrics, yeah, they can. Not quite 100% pitch black like you’d get with thick curtains, but we’re talking 95%+ light blocking, which is enough for most people to sleep comfortably. The only place light might sneak through is at the very edges where the blind meets the frame, but with window-attached systems like Perfect Fit, even that’s minimal. For shift workers or anyone who needs serious darkness, we’d recommend blackout pleated blinds with a window-attached system rather than free-hanging. If you want absolute total darkness, you might need to combine them with blackout curtains, but on their own they’re usually sufficient.
Are pleated blinds suitable for bathrooms?
Absolutely. We fit loads of them in bathrooms. The key is picking a moisture-resistant fabric—we’ve got specific fabrics designed for steamy environments that won’t go moldy or discolored. The window-attached systems (Perfect Fit or Perfectly Fitted) are particularly good in bathrooms because they sit close to the window and don’t get in the way of sinks, taps, or tiles. The cellular structure actually helps prevent condensation from forming on your windows by creating an air gap. Just make sure you open the window after showers to let moisture out and give the blinds an occasional wipe if they get steamy.
How do I clean pleated blinds?
Dead easy—just give them a light dust with a feather duster or use your vacuum cleaner with the brush attachment on a low setting. The pleats can trap a bit of dust, so run the vacuum or duster along the pleats every few weeks. If they get marks on them, you can very gently dab them with a damp cloth, but don’t scrub or soak them because you’ll damage the fabric. Avoid using any harsh chemicals or bleach. Because they stack up so small when they’re open, they collect less dust than Roman blinds or curtains, so they’re actually pretty low maintenance.
Can pleated blinds be fitted to unusually shaped windows?
This is where pleated blinds absolutely shine. We can fit them to circles, ovals, triangles, trapezoids, hexagons, arched windows, angled windows—pretty much any shape you can think of. That’s why we call them the king of all shapes. The fabric gets cut to your exact window shape, and the pleats fold up neatly regardless of the shape. We’ve fitted them to all sorts of weird and wonderful conservatory shapes, loft windows, and architectural feature windows where other blinds just won’t work. If you’ve got a window that’s been giving you grief because nothing seems to fit, pleated blinds are probably your answer.
What's the lifespan of pleated blinds?
Good quality pleated blinds should last 7-10 years minimum and often longer if they’re looked after. The mechanism is simple and robust—there’s not much to go wrong. The fabric can fade over time if it’s in direct harsh sunlight every day, but our quality fabrics are designed to resist fading. The cellular structure might compress slightly over the years if you’re constantly opening and closing them, but it takes ages for that to become noticeable. Treat them gently, keep them clean, and they’ll keep looking good and working properly for years. We’ve seen pleated blinds still going strong after 15 years.
Do pleated blinds work with smart home systems?
Some of them can, yeah. Certain free-hanging and roof-blind systems can be motorised with Somfy, Thorq or Motion motors, which can then be connected to smart home hubs to work with Alexa, Google Home, and other smart home systems. You’d need to add a compatible hub, but once it’s set up, you can control your blinds with voice commands or through an app. It’s particularly useful for roof blinds that are hard to reach, or if you’ve got loads of conservatory blinds you want to control all at once. Motorised pleated blinds are child-safe by design too, which is a bonus. Not all systems can be motorised though, so ask us which ones work if that’s something you’re interested in.
